It seems strange at first, but it's actually a deliberate part of the design. By "composite key" it means the combination of passphrase and key file.
The wording is deliberately ambiguous so that it does not give an attacker useful information about which part - passphrase or key file (or both) - was incorrect, as that would make an attack easier.0 -

Yes, I understand exactly what it means. But it's still a very poor choice of wording, which I suspect a non-techie may find confusing.Stompa0 -
Hi,It just says I have not used correct password, mistyped, something else. took it off again for 4th time.As I say, when I set the masterpassword up, I then came out, and then got in ok.next time locked out. This happened4 times, the last time I used a password I could not mistype, still locked me out. just emptied bin, 4 in
-have you downloaded the correct version for the OS you are using - if Windows..download this
-Have you installed this as administrator?
-have you installed this as administrator and then checked the "Windows user" tab and then trying to open in another user account? - Do not select "Windows user"
- have you set a key file?
I have never had a problem with this...maybe the above will help troubleshoot.0
