Hi, the other day keepass was recommended to me on here so I downloaded it, but when I set up my masterpassword, it keeps telling me I have entered wrong password in, even though I have written it down .till I can be sure it works.I have uninstalled 5 times and the same thing occurs every time.Once I set it up, logged off, then on again,ok. next time, "wrong"password? Good job I haven,t committed My seriuos list of passwords to it.Any help appreciated.

You could try passwordsafe instead. I've never had any issues with that.
No experience of keepass I'm afraid but my guess is you misstyped something when entering the password so it doesn't match what you have written down. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Hi, thanks for info , I will try yours. I definitely didn,t mistype password, thats why I had to uninstal and re-instal several times. I even made password simple just so as I could not mistype it, just to test it wasn,t me.thanks anyhowBillScarab wrote: »You could try passwordsafe instead. I've never had any issues with that.

Very strange, I've never had it fail in many years of use. What's the exact message it gives you when it fails?Hi, the other day keepass was recommended to me on here so I downloaded it, but when I set up my masterpassword, it keeps telling me I have entered wrong password in, even though I have written it down .till I can be sure it works.I have uninstalled 5 times and the same thing occurs every time.Once I set it up, logged off, then on again,ok. next time, "wrong"password? Hi,It just says I have not used correct password, mistyped, something else. took it off again for 4th time.As I say, when I set the masterpassword up, I then came out, and then got in ok.next time locked out. This happened4 times, the last time I used a password I could not mistype, still locked me out. just emptied bin, 4 inVery strange, I've never had it fail in many years of use. I know it's quite basic, but the password is case sensitive. Are you sure you're entering them exactly as they were initially?
I've used Keepass for a long time now and I've never had a single issue with it.0 -
I use Keepass (various versions) but have not run into that issue.
To test, try setting up a new database. Put a master password in, and then copy and paste the password into a plain text file (i.e. with Notepad) and save it. You might have to make the password viewable to do this (button to the right of the password box). Save the new database (remember what you've called it) and close down Keepass.
Now re-open Keepass, open the database you just saved and when it prompts you to enter a password, copy and paste it from the plain text file into the password dialog box.
It should open, but if that doesn't work then I'm out of ideas.0 -

Are you using the "Key File" option and are you pointing it to the correct location ?

As phoodless says, you've probably set it up initially to require a key file, but not selected it when entering the password - it defaults to no key file (which will obviously fail to open the database), so you have to browse for it the first time. Thereafter you have to choose the key file from the drop-down box.0

Same for me - been using KeePass for a while and no problems at all. Make sure you backup the database file regularly - if you lose it you'll be up sh*t creek..
I sometimes click the new databse icon instead of the add entry icon - but thats just me being daft..:o0 -

Strange, even if I type an incorrect password I get:
Failed to load the specified file!
The composite key is invalid!
Make sure the composite key is correct and try again.
(which seems a really odd way to phrase it)Stompa0
