Cannot install from a CD-any more - help please ?

Got my new PC a couple of months ago.
Uploaded all the software I wanted from the net and CD's - still not perfect but getting there . . .

Today needed to scan some documents and realised I hadn't loaded the scanner's software from the manufacturer's CD.
I followed all the on screen instructions and it said that it was installed so rebooted
BUT
the software hasn't installed !
I tried another 2 different software cd's -
the same -ie nothing installed

I can download from the net, I can 'see' the cd instructions but it's not happening !

Anyone had this problem and fixed it ?
Have I inadvertantly done this - so that if it happens again I can fix it ?

Can someone please help please ?

Many thanks

Lee

Just try this a moment to see if CD player is working, pop in a Music CD and see if that plays.

create a folder on your desktop and drag across all the files on your cd and drop them into the empty folder.

Then try running the setup from the folder.

Ok, I would try updating XP if thats what your using as there is a new installer available https://www.windowsupdate.com its just a case of elimination at the mo.

Also check that the software has a shortcut, In other words have a good look under Start, All Programs, and have a look all in there as you may have just missed it, especially if you have eyesight like mine :D

Yo might want to also check any spyware apps you run as it may have disabelled the software.

I know spycathcer part of the ghost surf 2006 suit platinum disabels some software untill you give it permissions.
  • OK Quincy . . .

I checked all the program folder - there should have been about 4 bits of software ( sorry for the non tech speak, but haven't got any ! ) and i did a files and folders search re the 'titles/names' that were installed on my old PC that's barely held together with an elastic band -
    not a bean !
Re Windows update -I allow my pc to automatically update every day - bit excessive but my memory . . . . lets not go down that road - have just manually done it.. .
    Still duzznee work !!!

Yep am running XP - is there a particular update that I can look for in windowsupdate.com and reinstall/upload ?
    Is it worth trying ?

I had my old PC for about 10 years and got it running sweet as a . . . and this new thing .. . . mutter mutter

    Any other ideas ?

Re Leesmithg's idea of dragging and dropping - will do that as I need those documents scanned - lets hope this silly grey box will let me. Many thanks for that emergency tip Leesmithg !

But please more help would be brill as it'll have to get fixed one way or another
    Many thanks

Have a look in user accounts in the control panel and make sure you have an Admin account and not Limited or that would do it aswell.

P.S dont worry about the updates now, that seems OK.

Thanks for the spyware application tip
I have got one or some - don't know what I'm doing but will have a search and see what I can find !

If I don't reply soon its because I'm still looking, but will update as and when
    Thanks
