If you haven't already done so - I'd get on with checking your credit record just to ensure there's no activity you're unaware of? The mobile application rejection might just signify something?

Good news they seem to be treating this 100% as fraud - initially it's not always the case. My wife had her M&S credit card raided a week ago and equally found it very upsetting .. and puzzling. M&S were alert enough to 'phone just 10 mins after the transaction, so there was no damage. But, strangely, my internet account at M&S is the only place that CC is filed or used online!

However the £400+ attempted purchase at Hugo Boss clearly suggests my christmas present isn't coming from there!

it is very concerning. My credit report should be here soon. I just hope it hasnt gone any further than the bank account. If there are things on their that didnt come from me do I contact the creditors directly?

I assume this happend when it did because they thought I would have been paid recently rather than later in the month so they thought that there would have been been more money in the account.

I just cant belive that not only has someone managed to do this but they have gone to the bother of setting up an account in my name.

It may be a screw up by your bank. I was paying someone elses credit card by derict debit from my account. They had the same surname and used the same CC provider as me. I had quite a job to convince them I did not live in and in fact I have never been to Reading! In my case, it was not actually fraud. I eventually got them to admit some doppey clerk had keyed in my account details for the DD mandate. My bank blamed the CC and they blamed the bank.

You should be able to check your credit report instantly online. Both Equifax and Experian offer a free 30 day trial (with cash back if applied for through Quidco).

That's rapid - and reassuring. But do make sure you go through with checking your credit report to ensure there's no suspicious activity.

And do get your Bank to qualify (as they have more data on the precise fraud mechanism) there is no obvious continuing risk to your account.

I spoke to the bank after I posted that. I also spoke to the large mobile phone shop (dont know if I can say who it is)that turned me down for a phone, they said the reason I couldn't have it was that the bank had refused the payment due to a risk of fraud, and that was before all this.

I spoke to the fraud department at lloyds, they said it looked like it had come from the phone shop. Apparently it has been happening a lot and most of the people had given information to the shop. I did over the internet.

It was a phone transaction and if they try again they will be put through to the fraud department and wont be able to do anything with out the 4 digit id number I gave them. They dont have my pass word or memorable info so shouldn't be able to access Internet banking, I changed them as soon as this happened anyway.

I feel a bit stupid giving enough information for someone to do answer security questions and access my account but with a large well known chain like that I just didnt expect it so I didnt think. Ill be more careful in future. Hopefully its over now and this is the end of it!
