    Hi Guys,

Just after some thoughts and advice please!

Looking on ebay at Peter Kay tickets for 2010 and I was wondering how anyone could avoid being scammed. Some sellers won't have the tickets for months, so what's to stop them selling "genuine tickets", taking payment (even via paypal) and then disappearing with the loot long before tickets would be issued?

Also, are the tickets all "named"? Would there be any issues with buying tickets on ebay and then turning up at the arena with tickets that were not in your name? Will the arena be asking for ID or wanting to see a credit card (perhaps) that you orignally used to purchase the tickets??

I'm sure some clever ebayers can provide helpful answers!

I managed to get two Peter Kay tickets on Friday through ticketmaster - I went for the 'print your own e-tickets' option and thus already have the tickets - even though the show isn't until Nov next year.

The tickets have my name on but there is nothing to say I need any ID or the credit card I used - I honestly don't think they check (it would be chaos).

My main worry would be that multiple e-tickets could be sold for the same seats - I have saved the PDF file for the tickets and can print them as many times as I like! What's to stop an unscrupulous seller selling the same tickets over and over again?

Sadly nothing, Do your etickets have a barcode on? If they do then thats scanned when you go in.

If someone printed and sold lots of the same ticket then it would be the first person that gets his or her ticket scanned first who would be allowed in.

I would never buy anything that wasn't going to be in my hands within first 45 days.

Thanks again for the replies guys.

Good comment about the printing of etickets! I hadn't even thought of that little scam with the barcode and multiple printing off of tickets!

Guess I wouldn't make much of a good master criminal, eh? :rotfl:

Thanks again for the replies :T

I've not seen an official warning but then I probably wouldn't bother reading it even if I did see it. It is just common sense after all.

When bidding on tickets there is a warning that pops up before the bid is confirmed but that has been happening for a while now. eBay stick this up to cover themselves.

Often tickets have names on. I have brought and sold tickets with no problems. It is in the T&C about the right to refuse but I think that it is very unlikely to be asked for ID. It is like everything else the risk needs to be weighed up.

I think the eBay forum is great but I sometimes thinks it makes me a bit
paranoid. Having said that I cannot believe some of the appalling stories both from sellers and buyers.

Personally I would only buy or sell in hand tickets. I suppose this is only because I have only sold ticket(s) where a member of the party has dropped out. Businesses cannot afford the luxury of waiting.

Perhaps wait until within the 45 day window.
  • It has been in Newcastle Evening Chronicle about someone being caught selling tickets which were copied, be really careful.
