Potential to be scammed buying Peter Kay tickets??

Hi Guys,
Just after some thoughts and advice please!
Looking on ebay at Peter Kay tickets for 2010 and I was wondering how anyone could avoid being scammed. Some sellers won't have the tickets for months, so what's to stop them selling "genuine tickets", taking payment (even via paypal) and then disappearing with the loot long before tickets would be issued?
Also, are the tickets all "named"? Would there be any issues with buying tickets on ebay and then turning up at the arena with tickets that were not in your name? Will the arena be asking for ID or wanting to see a credit card (perhaps) that you orignally used to purchase the tickets??
I'm sure some clever ebayers can provide helpful answers!

Don't do it. We got scammed with Leeds festival tickets last year, bought them early and by the time we realised they weren't coming it was too late for a paypal refund.
Even more annoying, my sister bought them but I paid, and she can't be bothered doing a credit card chargeback, so I'm out of pocket needlessly.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
The biggest possibility of losing out is you have to wait months for the tickets . You can only put a claim in paypal for 45 days so you will lose your buyer protection and will have to just trust the honesty of the seller. For that reason I would never buy tickets off ebay0

Thanks for the replies! What about the issue of named e tickets??0 -
I wouldn'y buy tickets from ebay unless they were capable of being delivered within 45 days.
My DSs all attend concerts and shows regularly (one is off to see Eddie Izzard tonight) and it is rare to see a named ticket, but even where they have been named the large venues have never asked them for ID.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Just wait for the DVD. You won't see much from the back of Manchester Arena anyway.0

Just seen this thread today.
not sure if you know that there are other dates at other venues going onsale tomorrow morning.
General release is 11am. but if you sign up to his website you get a link to get the tickets from 9am.
the dates and venue are on the peter kay website.
good luck getting tickets if the other dates are of help to you. if they're not, I wouldn't advise getting tickets until closer to the date via E-bay or make sure that the person selling the tickets has them 'in hand' then if they do not deliver quickly then you can start a claims process.0 -
Many thanks to those who replied to my message (both on here and via pm).
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any pre-sale tickets so I might console myself with the DVD nearer the time!
I think a lot of people are going to get scammed with these tickets. People are buying huge sums on ebay without any proof of the seller even having any tickets! There will be no paypal protection by the time it all unfolds either.
Some of the authorised ticket sites are also making mention of the fact that tickets bought via unauthroised routes are not transferable! Wonder if the venues will refuse entry to anyone who cannot provide evidence that they were the original purchaser? Perhaps the venues might even sting them for a "surcharge" to deter ebay sellers??
I think there are going to be an awful lot of fans ripped off and there will be tears before bedtime over these issues!
Thanks again for the responses.

How can the venue check upwards of 15,000 tickets when the doors open? Have you tried get me in, they have far better tickets, we got fantastic tickets for Pink in October, not cheap but a lot cheaper than some of the ebay prices. They were platinum tickets that are not normally available to the general public. I think I will always buy tickets like this in future.

I wonder if venues will ask to see the card a person paid with when they show their tickets to go in. Would only take a second to check, or possibly even do random checks. After all, the tickets are "not transferable" via an unauthorised means.
Still think that many people are going to be duped, particularly as paypal buyer protection will be long-expired by the time the concerts come around.
Thanks for the heads up about getmein!
Cheers to all those who replied - much appreciated!0
