Well done veggyboy. and Bundly. I guess i realise its a bit silly to be nervous but i still am. I have faired better than alot because they did award me lower care but no mobility. I do believe honestly that its wrong. The person who looked at my form wrote to my gp yet refused to contact specialist despite gp saying i was receiving specialist care and specialist could rovide a more indepth description of the difficulties i suffer. My specialist details were als on the origianal form. Award date is end of febuary 2009

Try and get hold of the Disability Rights Handbook and go through their information on DLA. Your local library should be able to get it for you. The panel will have 3 people - legal, medical and lay person. There will also be a person from the department presenting their side of the case and a clerk who will record the proceedings. Make sure you have supporting medical evidence from GP/consultant. Remember it's is not the fact that you have a disability you have to show how you meet the DLA conditions. You can also ask for the information that the Dss used to make your claim but you will need to do this asap to have it in time for tribunal. I work for a Disability Charity and this is a major part of my job (over 10 years). ANy other questions let me know. If there is some way to send me your address confidentially I will post you out info that I use in work.

Derms - thanks for your help. I already have the information they used. I do have a representative as well. At time of application my condition was not diagnosed but it since has been. I do struggle to properly describe the exact difficulties i have, some of the reason is pride but mostly its embarasment. Who really wants to have to admit that often then legs spasm to such and extent as they cannot even crawl that they often have 'accidents' because of this and need their husband to be cleanign soiled bedsheets at 3am.

Tribunal was Today. The panel were not half as scary as i thought. Bad news possibly is they have adjourned it for further medical advice. I have to have some sort of medical with a DWP doctor.

hi LilacPixie, just a little tip, it might help if you and your husband keep a journal of each day so that you have a proper record of your "bad spells" , how often they are, how long they last , how many times a week you need help in the night and how long each time. Also some written medical evidence from your consultant would be a great help

thanks for the tip Irismary. They already have my gastrology consultants report and my neuro consultlants report saying have an as yet undiagnosed condition with paresis. They seem to be wanting the DWP doctor to pass judgment on how this effects my everyday life. I am a bit worried as everyone seems to have issues with these medicals.

Still onwards and upwards. I do believe the decision was wrong in the first place I had just hoped I would of had closure today one way or the other.

Feeling nervous isn't silly. I guess it's normal.

  • Hi

If it helps i had to have an appeal when i applied for DLA .I did say i would have a paper appeal as i couldnt have stood the pressure of going in person ,i was turned 60 at the time and suffered from depression for a few years ,so i took the chance ,idid send in extra medical letters ,then i got a phone call to say they had adjourned the appeal and could i go and see a dwp dr ,which i did and 3 weeks later i got a letter to say i had been awarded DLA .So all is not lost i think they just want everything confirming by their own dr ,i am sure you will get your award .
