Returning something that's just a bit rubbish?

Snuggles

I bought a new Babyliss hairdryer from Tescos after my old one stopped working at the weekend. The new one works fine for blast drying, but is useless for styling hair. Even on the lowest setting, the air blasts out of it, so your hair is blowing all over the place and it's impossible to style. Also, the concentrator nozzle is so wide that it doesn't concentrate the airflow! Again, no good for trying to syle hair as you dry it.
Obviously it's not faulty, just poorly designed, and doesn't do the job I bought it for. Would I be able to take it back for a refund?

If i t says on the packaging it can help style your hair then as it doesnt do that job i suppose you could take it back and explain that it doesnt do the job you bought it for0

I did it with a crap radio/alarm clock from Asda and was asked if I wanted a replacement or a refund. I said I had to buy another one in a hurry elsewhere so they gave me a refund.
Edit> I did say to them it wasn't faulty, just not very good0 -

It doesn't specifically say anything about styling on the box, but I think most people who buy a hairdryer expect to be able to do that - no woman wants to just blast her hair dry and not care what it looks like.0 -

I dont i just dry my hair with a hairdryer and then style after with straightners so im not to fussed what my hair dryer does lol0 -
I style my hair whilst blast drying!
I can't see that the item is faulty as such, more a case of not what you are used to? It is at the discretion of the store if they allow you to return it.Gone ... or have I?0 -

I realise it's not faulty, I did say that in my original post! As you say, it's not what I'm used to, and so far I've found it impossible to dry my hair without it ending up a frizzy mess, as it's just too powerful even on the lowest setting and the concentrator nozzle is so big that it's impossible to dry a section of hair without blowing the rest of my hair all over the place, grrrrrr. I guess I'll just have to take it back and see what they say.0 -
Sounds like a dryer for the spare room to me.
Hairdryer works so you can't really return it, but I guess no harm in asking.0 -
Check they don't have a satisfaction guaranteed thingy on them.
To return them under SOGA you'd have to prove there unfit for purpose.
They dry hair so it would be difficult to prove. Sell them, do more research and buy a new pair.0 -
This is Tesco Direct's policy, might well be similar in store:
Tesco Direct Refund Policy - Our Promise
If any of our products fall below the high standards you expect please return them within 28 days and we will happily refund or exchange the item. Please have your invoice with you to do this.
Worth a try, it has definitely fallen below the standard you expected so seems to fall within this policy0
