The site https://www.mutualpoints.com works fine for me using Firefox behind a ZoneAlarm Firewall.

You say you have the "latest virus protection from Windows on", PLUS AVG Free Edition. I am not sure what you mean by the first one - do you mean the new Microsoft Anti-Spyware Tool?? If so, as has been pointed out in several threads here, this is BETA software, so is not fully tested, and may cause unexpected results if installed on your PC.

If the problems you are having have started SINCE you installed this new piece of software, I would suggest uninstalling it, and sticking with programs like Ad-Aware/SpyBot for now, and see if that solves the problem.

If you don't mean the new MS Anti-Spyware program, then you should NOT have two anti-virus products running on your PC anyway, as this can cause conflicts. I would still uninstall the "latest virus protection from Windows" and see if that cures it.

i couldnt remember the name of the first one - it is winxp service pack 2....i installed avg on the advice of a thread on here......but, these have been on together months before this has happedned - will try it though thanks
  • Open a Command Prompt and do a tracert to mutual points. That will tell you where the logjam is and bowl out if it's a problem with your system.

OK, SP2 does provide some additional security such as a slightly improved firewall but not, as far as I know, anti-virus. SP2 and AVG should work fine together.

As the problem does not seem to have been caused by either of those program, I would leave them alone and try Toxteth's suggestion and let us know how it goes.

Just to expand a little on what he said....

Go to Start button, click on 'Run' and enter CMD in the dialogue box and press OK.

When the Command Window opens enter the following:
    tracert https://www.mutualpoints.com
    and press the Enter key.

The tracert program will now display the route that your request takes and the response times of the servers on that route. Note the details of any server with a long or non-existent response and let us know how it goes.

Ummm - the 'ms' bit in the tracert results is milliseconds (1/1000 of a second) rather than minutes. The Internet would be a whole lot slower (60,000 times slower in fact) if those response times were measured in minutes! ;)

But no matter ... tracert seems to work so your PC can connect to mutualpoints, which seems to indicate a possible browser problem. Can you give us the EXACT 'incomplete memory' error message next time it occurs.

  • Your browser is probably Internet Explorer (or possibly Mozilla Firefox).

If you haven't tried Firefox,, I would strongly recommend it, otherwise I will leave it to Toxteth to tell you how to uninstall Internet Explorer. ;)
