  • not sure if this is the right place but i was wondering what i can do apart from put it in a bin back with the rubbish? I have previously tried the doggie loo but due to volume it never worked (i have 5 dogs). Can it be added to compost bin? Sorry again for teh subject but as we put out at least one whole binbag full a week and we are trying to cut back on rubbish generated.

    thanks

You can't put it in the compost if they have a meat based diet (smells / flies/ rats etc).

With five dogs you must be dealing with a mountain of poop

strangely my dogs mainly only poop in the garden, they dont like doing while they are out! - We always clear up as we have kids and ours are always wormed every 3 months as well for the same reason. I think that there should be more enforcement of those that dont clear up as it makes me mad and only takes two seconds. However cleaning off your shoe takes much longer and is far worse.
  • i quite fancy the idea of building my own mega dog loo (courtesy of the above link - thanks) or could try composting it as they are on dry food or putting it in the wormery also courtesy of teh above link but will have to be careful ref wormers. thanks all.
  • Don't compost it if you then put the compost on the garden. My understanding (and you might want to check it out) is that the toxocara bacteria which is hugely harmful to kids can survive the composting process.

So by putting the compost on the garden, you are exposing kids to a similar risk as that as exposing them to the poop, itself.

    Try

    toxocara compost

into Google ... some of what you find might be true

Apart from the health risk, it sounds as though your pets produce rather more each week than could be incorporated in a compost heap or wormery.

We find it convenient to store our cats' droppings in plastic sacks along with the soiled litter. Once well-rotted, it can be used in the garden just like any other animal manure.

  • u can't put it in a wormery if u worm the dogs!!!

The worming tablets will kill all worms
