i'm well confused by this thread
i thought it had been discussed on this board loads of times that there was more than enough homes to go round (everyone can have two each) and that anyone who thought otherwise was a knoob and living in fantasy land
how dare shelter say theres a waiting list
have they never looked on rightmove - theres 30 billion trillion homes on there available for immediate ocuupancy - whats there problem0 -
30 billion trillion? less than half of that imo
Kinda beginning to feel there's a lack of social housing. imo private rental and BTL should take up slackPrefer girls to money0 -

even if its only half its also been discussed on here loads of times that it only costs 60 pence to build a new house - so why don't they just build millions more
its cheaper to build a house than buy the big issue !!!!!! you would think they would get their priorities right0 -
because we could use existing stock rather than go on another construction binge imo. also not really feeling new builds cost 60p - at least double that tbf.Prefer girls to money0

IIRC there is 1 household per 3 people in the UK? Doesn't sound like a huge shortage TBHWe cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

your probably right - i mean on last count (as discussed on this board) theres at least half a trillion homes just sitting empty
though saying that is it cheaper to renovate these empty homes or build new ones for 60 pence
might be cheaper to build new ones but the average garden size of a new build is only 1 foot x 1 foot - so theres pros and cons either way0 -
You don't need to be homeless to put your name on a waiting list for social housing. Similarly, you can put your name on more than one waiting list. So, each data-point on the social housing waiting lists does not represent a unique individual, nor can we assume that it represents an individual in need of housing.0

If Generali had been here he could have stopped this pointless thread hours ago.
Yes prices are set by supply and demand but one of the problems of the housing market is that supply does not increase quickly enough with an increase in demand (and increase in price) because of planning constraints in the UK. There are plenty of green fields to build on in the South East if thats what we want to do.
An increase in the availability of credit will also shift the demand curve to the right, and with supply more or less fixed, that can only mean one thing - higher prices.US housing: it's not a bubble

BTL is part of private rental, there's not two variants as far as I'm aware.
Indeed private rental has taken up the slack since the decrease in social housing. Imagine what options there would be for renters if they hadn't taken up the slack.:wall:
