Express: Climate Change Is A Fraud To Raise Taxes
Comments
-
I've been a mild skeptic of some climate change science. The "there is nothing to debate" mantra when clearly there is has been very annoying, not helped by the green lobby protesting outside coal, gas, nuclear power stations on the same day as campaigning against the construction of wind solar and tidal installations.
However, fossil fuels are finite and we need to substantially reduce our dependence of them, especially dependence on coal and gas bought from far away unsecure sources (thanks to some cretins closing all our pits and allowing privatised leccy companies to burn all our gas). So becoming more energy efficient and a move away from all fossil does make economic sense as well as environmental.
The problem for the Tories is political rather than scientific. The public have largely bought into climate change as a direct personal threat. Arguing against it is going to do them a lot of damage, especially when the spokespeople objecting to it are the unchanged crusty old fossils that people hated a decade ago.0 -
I'm suspicious as to McTavish's reasons for posting this. Some things make sense.
He's made the same thread before but cant add to that so has to make a new one. Check.
Theres a dodgy source, this time the Daily Express. Check.
He's made some sweeping statements in page one then not returned to back them up. Check.
But wait - denying climate change? How does this involve gloating over people who cant afford to buy a house? Very strange - I just dont see the connection. Surely he should want climate change - more flooding less houses, and more of his lovely hpi!
:money:
Edit - doh! /facepalm. I see, it involves him not wanting to pay tax to avert a catastrophe that is only going to effect younger people and future generations. Normal Hamish service has resumed.0 -
November 2009 was the first November in the history of history that no snow fell in Toronto (thats in Canada btw

But the history of recorded weather history is but the blink of an eye in historic terms. Just a few hundred years at most.
I'm fairly sure there has been another November in which no snow fell in Toronto. Especially back when Canada used to be a tropical rainforest..... before the climate changed.;)“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Aghghaghagha
Climate change hacks me off. Here is an opportinuty to improve our lives and become energy self sufficient and people complain about it.
Since when did the UK decide it wasnt going to move forward, instead it wants to be controlled by other countries.0 -
What ?? Even the Peak Oil rubbish
Peak oil is a valid concept... Although not quite as alarmist as the proponents of it make out.
There is plenty of oil left to extract. It's just not easy or cheap, as we've found and exploited all of that.
As with all things, price will effectively ration anything where there is less supply than demand.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

And in Whistler, there have been record snowfalls with the snow line being about 700 metres lower than normal, so I'm not too sure what your point is.What goes around - comes around0 -

If the taxes raised in the name of climate change were ring fenced and used to promote energy independance, you wouldn't hear me complain about it.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Green is the new Socialism. The lefty always needs a cause in order to control and tax - this is their latest one.
I have always said that man made climate change is an utter load of bollax and I always will.
This was always well known because of my famous "ask a lefty test". Whatever the problem, you ask a lefty, and the answer is ALWAYS the opposite of what they say.
Screaming lefty fools. Within 100 years, unless they are stopped (which is hard because to an extent they shout loudest and control the media) the BRIC countries will be enjoying fantatsic lifestyles and we will be living in mud huts foraging for berries.0
