Declaring previous offence....

OH will *hopefully* soon be getting his licence back after a 3 yr driving ban for failure to provide a breath test. Looking at the insurance comparison sites, it asks about offences within the last 5 years. Does this 5 years start from the beginning or the end of the offence? OH's 3 yr ban actually ran out two years ago (Nov 2007 he got the letter from the DVLA saying he could re-apply!)
Thanks

The website you're using for a quote should be able to clarify your question. Doesn't it ask for the offence date and the conviction/ban date? I don't understand the relevance of the question given that it happened within the last five years anyway.0

Yes it did ask for the conviction date, which is out side of the 5 years, and didn't recognise it as a valid date.... which would make me think that its not relevant any more. I checked the site and couldn't see anything obvious but I will check again!'We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars' - Oscar Wilde0 -

No, but people make mistakes and when you've made a particularly stupid one, it sometimes helps to laugh at yourself.

If the punishment was just a fine and ban then it is 'spent' 5 years from the date of conviction. After that it does not have to be disclosed.0

To get a three year ban there must have been serious aggravating factors.0

But the conviction is still spent. In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0
