Funny how you question if I am sure if it a keylogger or not, then assume it is yourself.

If you check back, it was not me who said it was a keylogger. I said IF. I know that keyloggers can create screenshots and record mouse clicks, but thanks for lesson.

Now, seeing as you are knowledgeable (who isn't with Wikipedia to quote huh), maybe you could offer some advice or help to the OP instead of nit-picking?

I figured putting the quote between the first and second sentences would look untidy. I also lament the fact that there is no way to distinguish between the multiple and the singular when typing, or indeed, speaking; the second 'you' refers to anyone here who isn't me.

Now, to narrow things down a little we will need to establish where the spam is actually coming from. Is the OP using a mail client or webmail? Have the recipients of these messages examined the message headers? Does the OP have a copy of these messages in the Sent Items folder? Is there a spammer hiding in the wardrobe?

I will try to answer these questions. Am I using mail client or webmail, all I can say is that if I click on an email link the Windows Live Mail new message box pops up. Yes, I do have copies of the sent messages in my sent box, I have just looked at one message and it appears to have sent the message to the first person in my contacts and BCC to some of the others but the message has also been sent to some of the sites I have emailed on MSE whilst doing the competitions. Thank you for all your replies

If it's inside your browser - on a web page - it's webmail. If you run a separate program, it's a mail client. Does it look anything like this?

Think they've answered their own question. It Windows Live Mail apparently, so its a mail client.

  • By the way, I had the exact same issue on Sunday and changing the password seems to have sorted it for now. I also changed the security question.

Also checked your deleted folder for messages that have been sent. Whoever did it transferred the messages from the sent box to the deleted folder, along with several others that I had actually sent!

Yes I think you are right. I was trying to post a pic, but without success.

This has happened to me on several occasions and I have previously changed my Hotmail password but eventually it has happened again. By the way on one occasion a couple of weeks back the email was added to my new message page just like a signature which I had to delete.

We need to be certain; Windows Live Hotmail has an unconscionably similar name and looks pretty similar to boot!

But would clicking on an e-mail link open up Internet Explorer (Or whatever browser is the default), go to the hotmail site and open up the new e-mail box? Any computer I ever had automatically opened Outlook Express, so I'm assuming that this has been changed to Windows Live Mail?
