Need to get out of a contract!
Hi All,
I signed up to a 24 month contract for two phones on 3, but through an online/phone company called iBit Store.
I was sent the two phones very quickly, but received no written contract.
We are in a weak signal area for 3 but one hand set (Samsung Jet) would pick up a signal, but the second hand set (Sony Ericsson C903) refused to pick up the weak signal.
I contacted ibit store endless amounts (when they finally decided to answer the phone!) of time over the last week or or so and was promised call backs that day, and promises of exchange of hand sets which all amounted to nothing and was never called back once.
Finally had enough today, and called up, and after much huffing and puffing, was finally put through to the main manager of iBit store. I basically demanded that the contract was ended, but was told I only had a 1 week cool off period which I was now out of!
The manager apologised a lot but basically said I was stuck with the contract, but he would email me the return address for the sony handset and would send out a different handset, he said he would email me straight away, and would also email me with regard to compensation for the terrible customer service I received...........but low and behold no email. I would like to think it will turn up tomorrow, but to be honest I am absolutely threaders with it all, and just want out!
Does any one know how I can get out of this?
Thanks

Did you check the signal before purchase? Can you get an Orange 2g signal at your home?0

As I said, I can get a signal on one of the hand sets, albeit a weak one, maybe one or two bars out of five. The other handset will not pick up a signal short of standing in the garden! I did check out the signal strength on 3's web site, and we are just on the boarder of a weak signal area.
I have spoken to 3 a few times but they are unable to help me as I didn't go to them direct for the contract.0 -
Try Trading Standards as you expressed your will to cancel before the end of the cancellation period which they should honour.
Although this refers to mobile broadband, it may help your case:
