Depending on the phone and the mobile network you can use a phone as a dial-up modem attached by USB to a laptop and get full internet access. I've done this with a BlackBerry on Vodafone.MortgageMamma wrote:Also, another mortgage broker from these forums who is too shy to ask himself wants to know if you can use a mobile via usb for dial up connection?0 -

I have a t- mob nokia 6100 or a 3 nokia 6280- what do you think would be the best way?I am a fee charging WoM Mortgage broker.I now no longer give information and opinion within the Mortgage boards, because a number of posters who, having approached me professionally, agreed my fee-which has been been made very clear at the outset, taken my advice (normally cancelling a [home visit] meeting at short notice) have then approached one of the fee-free brokers on here to arrange the very same deal I have advised.Whilst I totally concur with the ethos of "money saving"- abusing the goodwill of a professional who provides a quality service is taking it too far! :mad:0 -
Google for 'nokia 6100 modem' or 'nokia 6280 modem'.
Also worth trying the configurator at http://tmobileus.wdsglobal.com/phonefirst. It's a T-mobile USA site, so the settings may not work with UK phone/network.0 -

I think I know what this means!
Please help STANMORESAVER, who is so obsessed with moneysaving he will not fork out for a 3G card
wow so much wrong advice being given out.
It IS possible to use a mobile phone as a modem. It is dog slow and not really useable but it can be done.
Connection by usb can be done on motorola phones that come with a modem driver and cable.
Ericson phones I have used via bluetooth
Nokia I have used by Infrared but was a !!!!! as you cant move anything to get it working
The bluetooth option was the easiest but you need the modem drivers and the AT string to innitiate the modem, the phone provider can supply these.
Colne isnt to far away if you need help let me know, i have freinds from Nelson, Crawshawboothand Rosendale and I will be able to call in at a Tesco he he he.
Buying the laptop becasue you get the free 3G card isnt a good reason to buy a Laptop. they seem to be giving them away petty often give vodaphone a call and see what they will do for you.
Phone 08700 712840 give them the serial number of the laptop and they should send it you.0
