Help Needed..Contract question!

Hi new here :)

Needing some help, a few of my friends have recently told me that they have had the remaining months of their contract taken over by a different phone company.

Can anyone tell me if this can happen or are they just pulling my leg?

    Are they talking about a network like Orange or a company like Carphone Warehouse?

    Usually the only people who do this is Phones4u but without knowing any details of your friends deal, I would be very weary of it. Heard too many people getting ripped off.
