GMail -Any Good?

hello

What do people think about GMail? I'm happy with my current email address but just wondered if I might be missing out on good new features. Also, how do I go about getting one, it's still available by invite only - when will it be available to everyone else?

Ta much.

I think Gmail is excellent - and getting better and better.

At first I held out to see what Yahoo mail beta was going to look right, but I have to say I think Gmail is really leaving them a long way behind.

It's not just Gmail, it's the other Google services that are slowly merging and being linked to your Gmail account. Eg. someone sends you an email with a date in it and Gmail offers to add it to your calendar seemlessly.

    Google Calendar
    Google Pages
Google Talk (if it ever becomes popular)
    Google Spreadsheet
    Writely (Now part of Google)

It took me a little while to get used to the way gmail displays "threads" of e-mails but now I love it.

Its much better than hotmail and Yahoo IMO.

Firefox has a gmail notifier extension which I find useful, not sure if anyone else has seen this but well worth the download.

I have 9 invites to gmail if anyone wants one just pm me. I will delete your email address from my account so I won't know what your gmail address is. This is for two reasons one your privacy and two I don't want my contact book full of people I don't know.

Yep I like it a lot.

I also have outlook configured to collect my gmail , so I can read my gmail via outlook and use outlook to send my gmail messages.

real handy bonus of this set up is that anything gmail moves to it's spam folder doesn't reach my outlook

I dont reckon gmail is anything special personally, same as the rest of the web based emails.

I use it, but it's not my main email account. I do like it and I use the firefox gmail notifier extension which is handy.

no not really, really quite different from the others in my opinion.

In fact on re-reading your post it puzzles me how you can possibly say it's the same when it is so significantly and fundamentaly different

Well unless the others have chaged VERY dramatically since I last saw them
