Why don't you ring the BT reconnections team on 0800 100 152 and discuss it with them. Please report back here, as this topic is often discussed with various charges from £0 - £125 mentioned.

I am very annoyed; i am currently a Telewest customer but am wanting to shop around for a better deal such as Talk Talk, but in order to do this I have to get BT to reconnect the existing line (in my hallway sitting next to the Telewest connection). I spoke to BT but they have informed that I will have to pay 124.99 for the priveledge of becoming one of there customers! This really makes me angry because if I/you really want to enter the competitive telecoms market you have to have a BT line. I have written a letter of complaint. Has anyone had a similar experience or can anyone offer any advise? :mad:0

I am moving to a new build next week and am with 'talktalk'. Now 'talktalk' say i have to get a 3 month contract with BT and then cancel it (cost £18 apparantly) and let them know when i have the line up and running (cost £125to activate line with BT) and what the number is and 'talktalk' will start billing from that address and phone line then.
Speaking to BT they say 'talktalk' can do all the work from their side but for some reason don't like to.......who is correct? Can 'talktalk' activate the phone line themselves as the guy at BT says?
Sorry if this has been covered previously but i am a tad confused.
Many thanks0 -

Why do you see it as BT's fault? Do you expect it to provide a service to you for nothing?0 -

The person at BT is right.
TalkTalk or any other provider could order the new line from BT instead of you doing it.
However, TalkTalk don't offer this facility to its customers - instead they prefer to let their customers going to BT instead.
The question would be, after you do all this, do you really want to rejoin TalkTalk?

I have just moved into a new property and have no problem whatsoever paying the connection fee. Getting them to set up an account in the first instance would be a bonus. I have applied online once, called twice and was advised they would call back but never did, called again today and now I have to call back again Monday. They surely must have a vast amount of new builds yet they seem unable to book a new line for them without hassle. They connected the line in the first place, we only want them to switch it on!! If they insist on charging the £125, at least let people who are willing to pay it have a new line!!0
