I got a Samsung E1360 slide phone for under £15 - PAYG, from the Orange shop last year for my mum, who's 76. She can use it no problem. It's nice as it locks when you close it. With her last phone she often forgot to lock it and i'd get phonecalls from her when she was going through the checkout in Tesco and all i'd hear was...beep...beep. She'd be oblivious that her phone was on.
It's £19 this year, plus you need to buy a £10 top up with it, but the Orange shop set it all up for you. http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-phones/phones/phoneList.jsp?_DARGS=/shop/mobile-phones/phones/fragments/deviceFilter.jsp.device-filter#0
