Simply not true. No more information is presented on a widescreen.
In the same way that no more information is presented on a larger TV screen.
My experience is that with both TV and SatNav many people prefer a larger screen to a smaller one.
It may not be true for you, that doesn't mean it may not be true for other people.0 -

One thing you should do however, is avoid Halfords.
Why? It's easy to get trade discount at Halfords and you are buying a sealed box. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
In my last job I used to drive up and down the country every week (I did the job for 6 years).
I've tried both TomTom and Garmin (as the company used to sell them) and both mine and my colleagues opinion was that TomTom was the best out of the two makes in terms of not getting lost, overall signal strength and satellite lock on.
This was about 3 years ago so they may be closer to each other in terms of performance but due to the continued reliability of the TomTom's I would go for another one next time I need a new SatNav.0 -

yeh that was true a while ago but the newer models, ie the past year garmins are on top for low and high price sat navs. £130-£180 and id get a tomtom. otherwise garmin all the way
as for why you should avoid halfords... because theyre the pcworld of car accessories and you pay through the nose for the pleasure (HA!) of shopping there unless you buy there really cheap tat
for quality and good prices go to smaller nation wide shops like motorworld, wilco etc etc.
they wont have the same range mind you but will do trade
online is your best bet for satnavs.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

Yeah I though they may have converged. I'm still using my TomTom from 3 years ago when I drive anywhere (which is rare now) so I don't know what the current market is like.
A lot of it is personal preference. One other thought might be to see if you have any friends with a TomTom/Garmin/Whatever that you could borrow and see which one you (I'm presuming this is for a present, so I doubt if your friend's partner would want to do it) prefer. If the technology is close between to two, this might be the best way to decide.0 -
This is a good site for comparing sat-nav prices... http://www.best-satnav-deals.co.uk/
You can get good deals in Halfords online & go through Quidco for cashback too...
I've used both Tom Tom & Garmins but i wouldn't swap my Becker for either of them, i love it, so don't be put off trying other makes........What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -

It is rather silly to compare a satnav screen with a TV screen. Obviously in a larger room then a larger screen TV is beneficial, however when driving, the distance from your eyes to a satnav screen is very similar whatever the vehicle. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
