Vodafone call charges

My wife inadvertantly made a call to her parents in China at the end of last week from her mobile. The phone is on a pay monthly Vodafone contract with 500 inclusive minutes.

Normally she uses an IP card service, dials a London number (which is included in the call allowance), puts in a PIN and then dials the number in China. This works out at 0.4 pence per minute. We have International Freedom on our BT landline at home which means calls up to 1 hour to Chinese landlines are included.

The call lasted 24 minutes and 8 seconds. The call charge from Vodafone is £38.86p which works out at £1.61p per minute.

Whilst I'm not disputing that the call was made and we will be paying it I don't know how they can justify call charges which are so high when it costs less than ½p on an IP card and is included in our call plan from BT.

Talk about profiteering!

It's £1.65 per minute without international call saver. China is classed as "rest of the world" and so is not governed by the European Union price caps therefore they can charge whatever they can get away with.
