Things I like about wetherspoons - ham egg and chips for £2.99, extensive selection of bottled european beers, being able to have a pint with my breakfast, the cheap prices.

Things I don't like about wetherspoons - Full of drunken old layabouts at all times

On balance, I think wetherspoons is OK

Ours seems to have students and old biddies as well.

As an old biddy I love 'Spoons. Where else can you get a perfectly decent pint for well under 2 quid?
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Yes, that is their business model.

    And it works.

No wonder the small publicans are struggling.

P.S. In my local up yere on Exmoor t'other day a couple of pr*ts were complaining over the price of the Belgian Fighting Lager. "We can get a Pint for £ 2.20 down the Welly (the local Wetherspoons in Minehead)" According to the owner, he would lose money of a Keg of Stella if he sold pints for less than £ 2.80

As supermarkets retail it for less than 90p a pint.

    Beer ties should be banned.

  • Hey - if money is tight at least Wetherspoons means still being able to get out and socialise - my local one does indeed have a high quota of 'old biddies' but this is often just a sign of good value - the cooked brekkie is the best locally and the tables are always cleared fast of empty glasses etc. The comment about all of their real ale tasting the same is not true, in my experience. As a recent convert to real ale I'm constantly amazed at the different flavours my local serves up - and always for less than £2.
IMHO they have a good business model (see today's news..) but like all places that are 'good value' they will always attract, by definition, poorer (or cannier?) people; others might prefer to pay more for the same 'product' if it means a more 'upmarket' atmosphere - you pays your money and makes your choice.

As I said before you get what you pay for, simple.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

more places for the sad cases and dead beats of society to sit all day and contribute nothing.

I had to thank that post WH...I don't know why...but I just felt I should. Maybe a 'Thanks' from a stranger will cheer you up a bit ;)....and it was sunny today too.....that is if you live down South.:D

i used to go to a pub that showed ... two female strippers (the full monty) that started off wearing the kits of the teams playing.

    all for three quid.

    those were the days.

    best afternoons ever.

They were probably topping up their benefits handouts.
