Yes, that is their business model.

    And it works.

No wonder the small publicans are struggling.

P.S. In my local up yere on Exmoor t'other day a couple of pr*ts were complaining over the price of the Belgian Fighting Lager. "We can get a Pint for £ 2.20 down the Welly (the local Wetherspoons in Minehead)" According to the owner, he would lose money of a Keg of Stella if he sold pints for less than £ 2.80
Spoons will be buying the fighting liquid at a lot better rate than your local can buy it for when they are buying for the whole chain  In their quest to dominate they have probably helped in sending a few to the wall tbh.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

Whatever the business model is (and presumably it works) all 'Spoons real ale tastes virtually the same. They're no good at pulling a decent pint.

Not decrying 'Spoons. You gets what you pay for. I drink both there and at pubs selling well-kept beer.
  • more places for the sad cases and dead beats of society to sit all day and contribute nothing.
  • i used to go to a pub that showed the prem league on a Sat, plus a drink, an omellette and chips and two female strippers (the full monty) that started off wearing the kits of the teams playing.

    all for three quid.

    those were the days.

    best afternoons ever.

Someone once told me that Wetherspoons buy beer thats very nearly out of date, on the basis that they sell it so fast it doesn't matter, and that's why the prices are so good, anyone know if that's true?

My Students Union did this - except they didnt particularly care about selling it before it actually went out of date. God the hangovers we got from that place.

Only mitigated slightly by the fact they watered it down as well, sometimes in front of you.

I think most people who go to cheap boozers dont care much about the quality of alcohol on offer. they go as a means of getting out of the house and actually socialising, while getting merry in the process, often for just one or two. They want to do this without much of an effect on the wallet.

Cheapie places like weatherspoons procive a great option, I wish one was near me! I don't want to go and spend the best part of a tenner every time I go for a quick drink with the missus.

    I dont mind Weatherspoons.

Cheap and OK drink, food is better than McDs and it's clean.

For 4 quid I can have a veggie burger, chips and a pint. Perfect.
