On hearing this news my first reaction was what great news this is: I think its 10000 new jobs, 250 new pubs....

but part of me wished this were the sort of news we could here from engineers, or scientists, or book shops ...

out with borders, in with wetherspoons: both fily souldless chains, but at least in one you can get alcohol.

Still, jobs are jobs, and tht is most certainly good news.

I don't really like Wetherspoons, always full of under age people or old biddies.

    Oh well, jobs are good.

They are the pub version of supermarkets. Stack em high, sell em cheap.

Someone once told me that Wetherspoons buy beer thats very nearly out of date, on the basis that they sell it so fast it doesn't matter, and that's why the prices are so good, anyone know if that's true?

That is how they started out. Indeed it was true, not sure it is now as they are so big.

Yes, that is their business model.

    And it works.

No wonder the small publicans are struggling.

P.S. In my local up yere on Exmoor t'other day a couple of pr*ts were complaining over the price of the Belgian Fighting Lager. "We can get a Pint for £ 2.20 down the Welly (the local Wetherspoons in Minehead)" According to the owner, he would lose money of a Keg of Stella if he sold pints for less than £ 2.80

In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

We went to Wetherspoons last week, a last minute decision, not been for a while and when we were served the food I remembered why.
But if people are happy with it, as they say you get what you pay for then good luck to them.
Ours seems to have students and old biddies as well.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.

I presume they will take over pubs, perhaps that have already closed.

I don't think restaurants lose out to Wetherspoons IMHO.
