Advice Needed - New Phone for Xmas!!

I'm umming and ahh'ing over a few phones at the moment but OH has told me he's taking me for it at the weekend and doesnt want to be in the shop all afternoon :rotfl:

OH buying me a new mobile phone for Xmas. Problem is, Im quite fussy. So if anyone has any good suggestions over and above the front runners I would be grateful!!!

I currently have a 16-month-old Samsung G600 Pink, but it is getting to the stage of being past knackered and its going to die on me anyday. :D However, I like the features on it. My budget is £200, and whatever phone I get MUST be on Vodafone PAYG (or sim-free) - that is non-negotiable. It also must have access to Vodafone Live - I have been given an unlocked BlackBerry Curve but my internet wont work on it so its been sort of abandoned!

Front runners at the minute are the Nokia 5800 and the Samsung Tocco Lite, however the somewhat rubbish battery life of the Samsung is putting me off a bit!!

Anyone any suggestions??!!

Thanks!

Assuming you are happy with a touch screen phoine I'd go with the nokia 5800 - probably the best at that price point

Its a good all rounder lots of free apps to play with, decent camera internet ( has WiFi) GPS etc Good screen

unless you have a particular need - like I Said its a good allrounder oh and buy a screen protector and case off ebay

Another thread mentioned a Sony Ericsson W995 sim free from Phones4u. It is at the top end of the budget though.

It's got 8mp camera, 8gig memory card with the phone and not a touchscreen which I can't stand other than on the iPhone! It would slightly beat the 5800 for me, just due to the camera and useability.

    thanks Jim and lufcgirl.

Im openminded with the touch screen thing, I really wanted the IPhone but cant wait for the phone - the need is getting urgent!! Not too concerned about the camera- think will have a look at all 3 options before making a decision.

  • I think Nokia 5800 is the best phone for that price
  • Hi.
Go for Samsung star 3g. Its reasonable in price and its feature is excellent.

I would make sure you have the correct settings. It sounds very much like a configuration issue. Dont waste your money if you like this phone and can use it

I've tried just about everything and it just wont work... spent ages fiddling with it but I discovered Im not much keen on the phone in general. I really didnt want to spend my money on a phone but by the same token I dont want to have to keep a phone I dont like. Am going to pass it on to my friend who also wants it. Thank you though greyster - much appreciated the advice.

Thanks for the tip atlantis - but t-mobile is out of the question for me, I have a superb package on Voda PAYG of mainly discontinued perks so I need to stay with Voda. Plus the signal on T-Mob is a bit dodgy round here - OH is on T-Mob and his signal is usually about 2 or 3 bars but mine is full strength.

Will report back on Saturday what I decide! cheers guys.

Nokia 5800 is ok, but it takes about 5-6 key presses just to make a phone call.

The Iphone......You cant load your own ringtones on, you have to buy them from Itunes and you also cant send files to other phones via bluetooth.
