Get a Firewall then I use http://www.simtel.net/product.download.mirrors.php?id=536870 -
Service set identifier (the name of your network), which is probably wanadoo something or other, if it says wpa encryption on your available network screen, you are probably ok. If it is WEP, then it is better than nothing, but hackable.
Turning of the ssid broadcast stops your network being advertised to the neighbours.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Sorry to sound a thick git but how do i find out if its wpa? and how do i turn off the SSID?albertross wrote:Service set identifier (the name of your network), which is probably wanadoo something or other, if it says wpa encryption on your available network screen, you are probably ok. Found it, its wpa, mine is there and some one elses:eek:0 -
Not sure on other routers but on the Netgear DG384g I turn on WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key) and have a longish password which you also have to set up on pc that uses wireless network.
I also disable SSID ( Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID) and also have mac codes in Wireless Station Access List0 -
Thanks for all the suggestions, its not a wireless system. I will have a look at some of the stuff thats been mentioned, thanks. We are beginning to think my mums card was cloned funnily enough, as the other transactions such as purchasing from 02.co.uk and using betfair would need all the card details.0

Even chip n pin has found to be unsecure although its far better than the previous system. I heard on Radio the other day that some guy in UK found his card being used in Honk Kong even though hes never been there.0

Sassie wrote:Hi sorry to highjack thread but can you tell me where to look to disable SSID please
It all depends on how you configure your wireless router - on my BT Voyager I open the BT voyager browser and can adjust the settings in there - to disable SSID there should be an option to tick - hope that makes sense.0 -
Have you got a router sassie? It would only be in a router that has wireless abilities. It would be some where wheer it states wireless or security.
In the Netgear it will be in Wireless Settings then Wireless Access Point0
