Currently my mums bank account has been subject to lots of unathorised activity, to the tune of £600. We thought it was all sorted last week, barclasy changed the cards, we changed passwords and everything, then today four more payments have gone out to 'sonatel paybox' in senegal, which looks like a western union type place.
In truth we don't know how her details were obtained, it may not have been the internet, but in case it was, is there anything I am doing wrong: we have mcafee firewall, antivirus, spybot, windows defender, adaware, winpatrol, ccleaner and ewido? is there anything else I should be running?
only my mums account has been affected, not mine, but I do all her online banking for her, she never checks her emails, she gets me to open them and read them over her shoulder and I have never opened any phishing ones.
so worried now

Your security looks good. The only other program I would recommend is AnalogX's Cookiewall:

This gives you complete control over which cookies are allowed to be installed on your PC.0 -

is there anything similar for firefox? it says for IE there0 -
I wonder if your cards have been cloned.
I have AVG anti virus installed, and Norton Firewall 2005. I regularly sweep for spyware with the cleaner and check with Ewido I also regularly clean the internet cache with crapcleaner and sensitive material such as onlne bank accounts, I use roboform password generator and save the passwords as text file in a winzip file with high rating security encoded and passworded protected.0 -
Hi,
Are you using a wireless router? If so, do you take security precautions on it?

Try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ also dont forget if using AVG to scan in safemode and after restarting check System Restore is back on as I have found safe mode switches Sys restore off.0

First thing I would do is get a firewall, Just remember that if you have a bundled AV package like Norton it may come with a firewall anyway and just leave the windows one alone no need to switch off.

Gareth, You need to setup wpa-psk encryption with a strong password https://www.grc.com/passwords, and disable the ssid broadcasting on you router, have a look at the wireless sticky thread..
Pug, You seem to have security in abundance, are they all upto date, and is windows autoupdate turned on? One thing to watch for is redirection to phishing sites by host file amendment, search for hosts on your PC, and check that there are no bank sites mentioned in it. A router is also a good layer of protection if you are on broadband.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
