Car I just bought was a write-off, seller lied.

Why are you selling it?

If it's road worthy i.e. has an MOT there is no point as you are losing money immediately.
Also you don't have to disclose if it's category C unless specifically asked about accidents.
I want the car gone, really. I feel negative about it and as I am carrying around a baby in my car, I want to be sure it's as safe as can be.0 -
As I said in a previous post, get the car checked out by a responsible garage or mechanic, explain the situation, and they'll let you know if the car is unsafe to drive or hopefully give it a clean bill of health.0

Ask the previous keeper what happened to it, then have someone look at that area of the car. It is probably perfectly safe.0

Thanks everyone for your help. It gave me a different perspective on my feelings towards the car.
I have sold it on this morning for £2000, and I was totally honest about the car's history which makes me feel better about myself.
The buyer brought a mechanic with her and he picked up on everything that I was aware of and was still happy to offer £2000.
Like I said, thanks for your thoughts. I'll use this place again :-)

i have just tried to sell my car and the car i have been sold was a cat c write off in 2006. the previous owner never accuired it till 2007 so he was also un aware of this. there is no problems with the car whatsoever and it looks like they made a great job of repairing it. all i need to know is wheather it's still ok to pass this on as long as i tell them the history?

Breakers yards generally don't get the keys for the cars.
Funny I have had several sets of locks and keys from breakers yards and dismantlers over the years.
You some times have to dig the transponder chip out the old ignition key with some types of cars. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I had a car that was a write off, it was a wonderful car, 1999 galaxy and only cost £650 last year. No escaping the accident it had had though because of the 5ft scrape that ran down both doors
Glad you got most of your money back

Ditto, it's a growth industrygiven the outrageous prices dealers will charge for a lockset.
Recently sold a car, two door and a boot with three keys.
Couldn't find a lockset in time but the buyer wasn't bothered. £2k car.0 -

It's not illegal to sell a write off as long as you inform the buyer of it's history.0 -

Sadly, the buyer not only did not inform me of the car's history, but he actually lied about it when I asked him.
I wrote to DVLA 27th Nov 2009, but they have not acknowledged the letter.
