Migrants wrongly get tax credits....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5074124.stm

I wonder how many of these people are made to pay back the money....

It stinks that people are having to suffer hardship - because they have been overpaid credits in the past.
Whilst people who are not legal British citizens can just come to our Country and milk the welfare system for everything going....

  • According to the figures in that article, the erroneous payments to migrants would amount to less than £3 million, which is still a lot of money, but in the context of the whole huge mess that is the tax credits system, it's neither surprising nor a substantial proportion of their total !!!!-ups.

And don't forget, when tax credits first came out there was a lot of confusion about whether or not they were considered as 'public funds'. They arent administered by the benefit system. They used to be a 'credit' for working people. Child benefit was the same - it wasn't a 'public fund' that immigrants would be excluded from claiming. Immigrants are still allowed to claim CB it's only asylum seekers that are not allowed to work or claim benefits. Lets not have a thread that degenerates into asylum seeker bashing again - there is a distinction to be made!

Nowhere in the article does it remotely say this is the case - they were wrongly given them - it's surely up to the benefits office to be a bit more careful?

The majority of those people will havw applied for Tax Credits in good failth, like any other benefits, its up to the HMRC to assess eligibility and not pay out if people aren't entitled.

The article itself says that certain eligibility checks weren't being done, so its hardly the claimants fault.

"Mr Laws claimed the payments might bring the total fraud and error costs for the tax credit system to more than half a billion pounds a year".

Hmmm...I wonder who foots the bill for this then ??
The whole system is a joke....

Its only a perception that 'foreigner migrants' dont to pay in to the tax system, migrants who come usually do so to work and are often much better qualifies and experienced than the British people who complain (how many Indian born doctors prop up the NHS ?)

People need to seperate the migrant workers from the asylum seekers, who in real terms dont actually qualify for most benefits, those that they do get are reduced, and they aren't allowed to work even if they wanted to.

And remember that there are just as many people who are British born who do scam the system, are they jealous ???

The argument that truly tickles me about the whole asylum debate - 'they're taking all our jobs'

Sorry, but, the jobs are there for British-born people. Just for a lot of people, it's easier to sit in your armchair and say you can't get a job because those asylum seekers take them all - when it reality, it's the fact you can't get off your bum and seek employment.

Isn't it true, also, that immigration actually provided more money for the economy than was spent on it last year?
