What brilliant ideas here! I'm going to try some of them too.
The only one I'd add is to use own brand cream cheese with pasta. It's great instead of a sauce and can be added too with fried onions, peas, bits of bacon etcsomewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -

I know this wasn't directed at me-but buy popcorn from tesco or health food shops. (no idea how much it is at lakeland but am sure is more than tesco etc)
You don't need a machine just a heavy based pan and a little oil. Heat oil in pan til pretty hot, add a small amount popcorn (no more than a single layer in the bottom of the pan) put lid on (QUICKLY) and shake pan about (you can probably turn heat off now if oil was nice and toasty). Keep a hold of the lid, keep shaking until no more popping noises. Pour into bowl and add a little salt (I'm sorry but I have to have salted, not sweet popcorn-unless its toffee Butterkist
)
I havent made it for ages as I tend to buy the microwave stuff-I only have it about once a year if that0 -
The kids will love having home made popcorn and watching you make it.

What an inspiring thread!!! I am seriously beginning to worry about my weekly shopping bills - I thought I did really well when I bought a weeks shop for only £54 this week...eek! Have stolen lots of ideas and will def try adding lentils to my next bolognese? can i just ask do the lentils stand out visually or do they just blend in? dd is one fussy madam, especially if i mess with her fav spag bog!0

Hi donna, the lentils just mix in if you use the orange ones, if you use puy lentils they keep their shape and don't go mushy! If there are any stray ones you can always pass them off as carrots. Try adding a couple of handfuls of oats as well, these vanish in the sauce as well and make it go a lot further and are unnoticeable when it's cooked. Obviously long slow cooking disguises it better than a quick whizz on the hob, the slow cooker is ideal as you can make a huge amount with no real effort - perfect cooking really!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000
