Can I return Argos goods if they have gone down in price since sale?

Basically, I bought a laptop from Argos for my girlfriend for christmas about 3 weeks ago (It's this one: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5082236/c_1/1|category_root|Office%2C+PCs+and+phones|14418968/c_2/3|15701344|Laptops+and+mini+laptops|14419039/c_3/4|cat_14419039|Laptops|14419040.htm

Now I think when I bought it, it was £599.99, but checking now, it has been reduced to £499.99.

The laptop is in my Dads car boot so she can't find it (she lives with us right now), so the box literally hasn't been touched - the bag, reciept, and everything is with it, exactly as it should be, had a literally just bought it now.

Now, I don't want an out-and-out refund, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if Argos would maybe refund for the price I paid, and let me buy it straight back for the reduced price?

Thanks for any replies.

If you look on your receipt there is possibly a clause saying that it is excluded from the 28 day returns period. (I bought an ipod and it was excluded from being returned unless of course it was faulty)

If its not there, just ask to return it under the 28 day return policy, go to another till and buy another one.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I think it is excluded from the 28 day returns policy, as it is electrical goods :(

I'm just unsure if they have definete rules for things like this, or if they would be able to exchange it as a goodwill gesture.

your link says it is excluded from the 30 day money back returns policy
  • If the price had gone up would you give Argos the extra money?

There's nothing to stop you trying - although they don't have to accept the return. Give it a go - but make it sooner rather than later.

I have bought many things that have been reduced soon after I have bought them, and it has never bothered me. This is special circumstances though, as it is £100, and the item hasn't moved from the very moment I bought it. If I had used it (or gave it to her as a gift already), then I would not bother.

Can I ask why you feel the need to be facetious?

I think I will try - if they offer no help to me whatsoever, then I'll just accept it and pay the extra anyway.

I hope I get to speak to someone who is willing to be helpful :o

I thought it was a fair question.

If it states that it is excluded from their returns policy unless it's faulty then it's just a case of tough luck IMO, we have all bought stuff and seen it at a reduced price after and kicked ourselves, as someone else said you wouldn't go knocking on Argos door to offer them more if the price had gone up...

Would also suggest you put it somewhere safer or it could be a loss of more than £100...
