This must be really common, it happened me a few weeks ago with a Virgin card, and then again a few weeks later with a Mint card....they must all be at it.

normal thing to happen really... interesting how they drag their heels though then THEY owe YOU money :) I asked for credit on my platinum card to be moved to my current account at Lloyds when I closed the card and it took them weeks... initially they had "forgotten" to send the request through... Right...

But if they think they can get money out of you then they are like little super speedy efficient things... I would complain and explain to them you specifically asked if this would pay off all outstanding amounts etc and the accound would now be closed. At the time it was confirmed that this was the case and if it is not so then that is their problem and not yours. If they have a problem with that then demand manager and they can't help ask for THEIR manager and advise them it will be reported to the industry watchdog... For the sake of £26 to them... they'll more than likely back off :) after all the mistake was theirs.

To add to my earlier post, on the Mint card I actually ended up overpaying, because as well as paying the full balance off on immediate receipt of the bill, they still collected the DD I had set up for the minimum payment. That was on 19th May and I rang that day to ask for a refund and they told me it would take at least two weeks to start to process it.....The mind boggles...except it doesn't really, because as I have mentioned a zillion times before (until you are all no doubt sick of me saying it!) I work in a bank and I know how they work from the inside, and its scary stuff!

Thanks all for your views, didnt want to seem petty complaining afterall its not a huge amount. Anyway, spent 45minutes on hold to Tescos and ended up hanging up (in work and had things to do) so have wrote them a letter and will be chasing it up in 7 days time if I havent had a response. Thanks again

I would complain stating that you were told the account was closed and you don't expect to pay for their mistakes. Most likely they will refund you.

I'm not sure that paying a £26 outstanding interest charge is 'paying for their mistakes' but worth a try perhaps. I wouldn't bank on it though.

Sounds to me more like either a misunderstanding between the OP and the Tesco rep or perhaps incompetence on the behalf of the Tesco rep (but as a previous poster has said, it's not unusual for there to be some outstanding interest in situations like this).

    Good luck anyway.

If you ask to close the account they should tell you if there are any other payments due to come out. So yes it is their mistake.
