Problem Book - Where to Sell?

Hi all, I have a book that has been removed from Ebay TWICE now and I don't know what to do with it! Both times it has attracted interest but I'm loathe to do a paypal transaction without the seller protection of selling through an ebay auction.

It's a first English edition of Mein Kampf from 1935, and as such Amazon don't list it either. What do I do? Is there anywhere online that I can advertise this, that will gain as much attention as Ebay or Amazon? Or somewhere offline I can take it and get its true value?

Many thanks!

https://www.abebooks.co.uk does rare and out of print books as well as ordinary ones. I don't know what their policy is, but have a look there.

I hope this is not a joke...but, maybe a real auction would be more appropriate.....

May I be so bold to enquire where you got it?

Firstly please don't be tempted to try ebay again. Depending on your account you might only need three warnings to get suspended, and BTW the two warnings you already have will stay on your account.

Selling anything that could be considered nazi memorabilia is actually very difficult in the UK, not only on Ebay. I'm not sure though that mein Kampf strictly falls into that category, but with ebay you never know.

Amazon US definitely list the book and a quick look on ebay UK also shows several listings of this book so you might try there.

As for paypal, you still get the usual seller protection even outside of ebay, but for a private sale you may be able to find a better payment method.

My only other thought would like inpy suggests and try an auction house. It doesn't have to be a posh London one, try looking locally as these houses are everywhere and talk to the auctioneer about setting a decent reserve amd see what happens. Don't forget when talking to an auction house ask about their fees, they can often make ebay look like a bargain!

    Soo

Why do you think amazon doesn't list it? I can see a variety of collectors additions of this book on amazon.co.uk from private sellers.

Thanks for all the replies :) You can tell I'm new on Amazon I couldnt find the blasted thing :p I got the book in a job lot I bought on ebay about a year ago for pennies, so it would be nice to get something back! The ebay account we tried to sell it on was my father's, so I haven't recieved any warnings, but I;ll take your advice and not try to sell it again on there. I think I may try amazon - thanks everyone!

I wouldn't have thought it shouldhave been removed myself but hey... Honestly I'd have been interested especially when I was doing a lot of reports on the 2nd world war etc when I did A levels... I actually read a lot of extracts from it in other classes and I have to say the skill behind it was fantastic and it's just a shame such a great and intelligent mind was used to in such a henious way :(

try writing to E-bay and asking why they removed it? If you ask they may check and at least tell you why they removed it? Or let you re-list it...

Hi there - this is quite an ethical dilemma too I think. Is it OK to make money out of such a notorious book? I don't know the answer to that one - I know I would feel a little uneasy.

I know what you mean. It's a historical document - but you'd feel freaked out if a skinhead with swastikas tatooed on his head bought it!

When my daughter was studying WW2 in her final year at school. Mein Kempf was on the book list. We had to buy it for her from our local bookshop. It got snapped up pretty quick at the car boot a couple of years later.

Jammy so-and-so! Maybe a traditional (not online) auction would be best; you could at least enquire if any auctioneers in your area would be interested in selling it. The trouble with advertising at a fixed price (e.g. on American amazon) is that you first have to decide what the price should be, and I wouldn't have a clue with this particular item.
I personally disagree with ebay's policy against listings of such items. It's an important part of history, and should be treated accordingly. It's not as though it's a manifesto for a currently active extremist party or anything.
