PAC Code & Contract Query

Hi,
I've done a quick search on here and the rest of the internet and am still confused by the PAC Code scenario (i.e. when to do it etc). My scenario is this:-

I am with T-Mobile on an 18-month contract which expires on the 23rd December so am within the last month of the contract. I am looking to leave and go to another provider. I understand that I need to get a PAC Code from T-Mobile which is valid for 30 days.

When do I order / get new phone ?
Assume I give PAC Code to new provider who will "port" number across - does this mean that T-Mobile contract will cease then ?
Finally - I also assume that I will get a final T-Mobile bill for 30 days (notice period ?) from date of porting ?

    You've got it spot on,

Give the pac to your new network, they'll port your number over, T will send you a final bill. Done.

On all networks apart from Voda you can give they them pac at any time, Voda can only take it at the point you sign up...
