I'd check that when you get your first bill - I got "free" installation, but apparently at the cost of increased monthly charges and a longer contract length - neither of which I agreed to.
Can you explain that please. The free installation offer requires you to agree to an 18 month contract and to making 10 or more chargeable or inclusive calls via BT per month, nothing more.

There are no increased monthly charges.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Says who?

This wasn't mentioned at all when I applied. I didn't explicitly ask for free installation (applied online) and my order confirmation states:

    "Your Calling Plan
Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan at no extra cost
Unlimited UK* landline calls after 6pm weekdays and all day at the weekend. For the same price as the Weekend Plan, our best deal is just £11.25 a month line rental on a 12 month renewable contract, saving you over £35 a year.
    £11.25"
    "Total one-off charges £0.00
    Total monthly charges £11.25"

I don't see *where* there it's telling me that I'm going to be paying £14.20 per month? Or that I'm going to be on an 18 month contract?

As an old cynic - a BT engineer between 1-6 on Xmas Eve ??? Only if you're moving to a Pub! GOOD LUCK ANYWAY!!!

Well that's the time they've given us and it's been confirmed by e-mail, i'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now!

With regards to the monthly charges etc, i think the bill was about £14 as standard, but if you set up a DD and register for paperless billing it comes down to £11.25 per month. This includes a weekend calling package. Must make 10 chargeable calls per month. It's an 18 month contract.

As above, they'll get the benefit of the doubt unless/until it all goes wrong! I know they get alot of flack on here but if you imagine the sheer number of BT customers compared to the number that have problems.... they must have some happy customers out there as well!

Anyway, i'll let you all know if it all ends up pear shaped! lol.

Really hope it all turns out well for you.

Well, I say "well"...It only took us 2 attempts to get ours installed. And have only needed to have an engineer on site twice since then (6 months) to fix faults...Reading the BT forums etc I count myself as having done quite well :)
  • Does anyone know if BT are still offering the free line installation?
    Thanks
