I was with PlusNet for some years and was overall very satisfied, save that P2P was rather feeble.

I have been with O2 for a year and am planning to go back to PlusNet as the frequent O2 disconnections are a real pain.

If on the cheapest package, what are P2P speeds currently like during the unmetered hours after midnight ?

I've been with Plusnet for 13 months and believe me, the experience is infinitely better than the previous 2 years with HOrrange!

    Ditto!

Orange is a nightmare - what customer service?????

    Plusnet much better customer service

Always seem to get the speed I was told I would get

I don't do any P2P stuff, but the product shaping on the new products can be seen here.

  • I wouldn't bother with P2P on the cheapest Plusnet package at all. Even using the 'unmetered' hours (they are still profiled). Tried P2P once and gave up after 20 minutes.

Unmetered showas at 256Kbs, which I could live with (I am not a heavy user), if it delivers that. Obviously if it is only 25Kbs that would be another story ...
  • Just switched to Plusnet from Waitrose. Rang Waitrose to get my MAC code and the man there said he could handle my transition to Plusnet without having to do anything else as they handled administration for Waitrose as well as other providers. All I had to do was give them my bank details again in order to setup a new DD. I was promised the first three months free and then £5.99 a month afterwards. Also promised new free wifi broadband router sent to me as long as long as I stayed with them for 12 months otherwise I had to pay for it. I then started getting bombarded with emails saying they would cancel my broadband (which hadn't started yet) because they didn't seem to have my band details and therefore couldn't take out a charge of just under thirteen quid immediately. I had no idea what they were talking about. I spent hours hanging on the phone waiting for someone to answer after sending them email replies saying that they had my bank details. Finally someone phoned me from South Africa to ask for my bank details!! and I told him about the problems. I asked what the initial charge was for and was told it was for one month's fee and the other part was made up of postage for the router. This had not been mentioned to me at the time. I have still had no joy in sorting out the problem. I have been told by email that I now have broadband with Plusnet. I have now cancelled my DD in the hope that when they get wind of this someone will call me so it can be sorted out.

Has anyone else had this problem on this (new) deal - the first three months free and then £5.99 a month. Their usage allowance on this deal is higher than Waitrose's was. I am not a particularly high user but was warned several times by Waitrose that I was skating close to my download limit with them.

I have also been called several times by a Waitrose automatic system and sent text messages to ask why my DD for them as been cancelled as they tried to take it. I am thankful I did as the guy who set up my details obviously didn't sort out the leaving Waitrose side of things.

I realise my problems aren't that great but feel that their promises at the beginning seem very genuine but then they try to sneak in extra charges.

Would be interested to hear from anyone else who is a new customer.

If you read the PlusNet website it says that the router is free, but you have to pay for P&P. I haven't looked recently, but I think it is around £6.99. That and one month's internet would be £12.98.

I'm also not sure that it is the "first" 3 months that are free, just that 3 months are free and these could be at the end of your first year.
  • Thanks for reply Luci. I sorted out my transition to Plusnet while on the phone with them. If it says you have to pay for postage then I think that should have been pointed out at the time. I already have a router so didn't need the new one. I wonder how long they guarantee it for. I plan to carry on using the current one unless something goes wrong with it. Did anyone else take a new router and pay the postage thinking that it is a good deal and not use it but just keep it in case?

I see what you're saying about the three months free, but not which three months! It seemed sneaky to me. I have loads of problems with DDs in the past with utility companies so am naturally wary.
