preliminary deposit

Options
I have agreed to purchase a property and have been requested by the EA to forward a preliminary deposit of £500. This will be held subject to contract.
Do I need to see a separate contract for this deposit or hire a solicitor to deal with this transaction? The property has been taken off the market and my offer accepted.

    Why don't you have a solicitor at the moment to help with this detail and to advise you on your legal rights and responsibilities that relate to house purchase. You will also need legal expertise to handle conveyancing duties, ID checks, handle monies, deal with deeds, searches, land registry, etc etc.

    Thanks J_B. I've got a solicitor but before I contacted him I wanted the views of this board. Is this a normal request of an EA?

    I would have thought the request would have been made through repective solicitors rather than direct to you. You don't owe their EA any money. Put everyones mind at rest and say you will consult with your solicitor, as soon as possible, to see what can be done.
