Help - does my Modus have Thatcham security
Can anyone help me with trying to get insurance renewal quote please?
One of the questions is about what is the car's security device. My OH is in hospital long term and I can't seem to find this info anywhere.
Our car is a Renault Modus Dynamique 1.2 Turbo (also known as 1.2 TCE).
The question asks if security device is
(1) No device fitted
(2) Factory fitted alarm and immobiliser
(3) Factory fitted immobiliser
(4) Non factory fitted alarm and immobiser
(5) Non factory fitted immobiliser
(6) Thatcham approved Cat 1
(7) Thatcham approved Cat 2
There have been no modifications to the car since we bought it from new last year so it will be whatever is standard factory fitted. I've looked on the Renault site and it doesn't seem to have this information. Anyone have this same car and can help? Or tell me where to look?

Irrelevent as its still a standard manufacturer fit.
The Thatcham options should be used if its an uprated alarm/immobiliser from standard fit.
OP you have a manufacturers immobiliser, nothing else, if you put a thatcham category 2 and claim you will be in a bit of hassle.0 -

If you bothered reading it you would see that it says that the standard fit is Thatcham standard 2. (Whatever that means).
Just because it is already in the car does not mean it is not Thatcham approved.
Why is it you try to help some people, there is always some know it all with nothing else to do who has to come along and criticise.
Mind you having said that, you are probably right, if it has not had anything extra fitted then you really should say standard fit. It will save any complication with the insurance company in the long run.
You could always do what I do and buy a car that no brain dead chav would be seen dead stealing, a Skoda, Hyundai, Kia or Nissan Micra, lol.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -

Go and iron your socks or whatever it is you do with your time.
Because your not helping and making misrepresentations is how people get into trouble. The car has the standard manufacturers fitted immobiliser so thats what you choose, if you go out and buy a different model and its approved then you choose that.0 -

I actually edited it after the socks bit, lol. you are indeed right when you say about only choosing the standard fit bit. Never, ever say anything to an insurance company that will give them reason not to pay out. Otherwise you may (god forbid) end up with a pile of scrap and no insurance cheque.
Your car may have thatcham approval but the the insurance company know more than me about it.
Only point I was trying to make was, it may or may not be Thatcham approved, but if it standard fit with no modifications then don't say this to your insurance comapny.
However if you live in a street full of chav scum, you can sleep easy at night knowing your car will probably still be there in the morning.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
Sorry guys, I didn't mean to cause anyone to argue
.
I have found this:Modus benefits from several anti-intrusion and anti-theft devices including: central locking with remote control and deadlocking, Category 2 Thatcham-approved immobiliser (Category 1 plus alarm on Privilège), anti-drill doors and locking fuel cap, plus the Renault Anti-Intruder Device (R.A.I.D.) which prevents anyone getting into the car by automatically locking all the car doors when it is travelling at over 5mph.
I can't find anything on the Renault website and no longer have the brochure from when we bought the car so probably best to perhaps ring the dealership in the morning and see if I can get a definitive answer from them.
Thanks both for your help.0 -
number 2 is the answer0

Don't worry, It's cool. I like argueing and moaning, I actually list it on my CV as my hobbys.
My employers actually ask me if there is something up with me if I am not moaning, complaining or argueing about something.Iva started Dec 2018.0 -
You could always just buy a Kia Picanto, cute and probably a good car but I am 98% certain you could park it, leave the doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition ad come out in the morning to find it still there while your next door neighbour is trying to work out why his BMW is missing from where he left it.Iva started Dec 2018.0
