My last effort would be to turn it off, and unplug everything from the system except for the power cord and the monitor connection, so remove everything else including all USB devices and even mouse, speakers, keyboard. Remove any CD/DVD that's in the computer (may need to use paperclip in the small hole if won't eject when "on") then triple check the connection between monitor and computer.
Turn it on, and if that didn't work then try a different power outlet and if that didn't work and there was still no output at all to monitor then the next step for me would definitely be remove the case, but now you say you bought it on 27/2/09 which would make it in warranty still so you mustn't break the seal and should contact them regarding warranty repair being confident in the knowledge you've done everything you can to satisfy yourself it is a fault with the computer and not the way it is set up
I assume when you say no lights that you are not getting any lights on the keyboard aswell as the case when you turn the computer on and that you are getting no system beeps?0 -
Thanks so much for your help! I did what you said (remove all cables apart from power cord) and it worked!! Well it worked, but wouldnt connect to the internet.
But.... I turned it back off again and it hasn't turned back on again since.
The caps lock key and everything worked fine, but it now back to the same state as in my first post.
Does anyone know what I've done??0 -

^^^ I still think it could be a loose/dislodged power button connection.I meant hard disk light. I am still unclear as to why you can hear the fan if there is no power to the PC? This could be a dislodged power connection; it does happen quite easily and is relatively simple to fix. Can you take the case off the PC?0

Based on purchase 27/3/07, the warranty will have expired 6 months ago even if it was 2 years, so taking the cover off will not invalidate anything.
Take it into a local PC repair shop (not PCW) and get a quote. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
We took the cover off, got rid of the dust :oO but couldnt see anything obvious wrong with the power button.
It's getting power to it because the fan is going?
Do you have any idea of how much it will cost? I rang a local PC repair shop and they said anything from £30 upwards?0 -
Which fan is going-the one on the PSU, or the processor fan? Do you get a single 'beep' at boot up, (as you would normally)?
Could be the graphics card-try reseating that, and check the connections to the motherboard. Then try a new VGA (monitor) cable. Since you've got a 'no signal' message to the monitor, it's not a faulty monitor.
Impossible to say how much to fix without knowing what the fault is, but neither of the above are expensive. £30 is about the minimum any shop will charge, plus parts. If it's the graphics card or monitor cable, you can buy and fix them yourself. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Could potentially be a PSU problem. Just because the fan is working (intermittently or otherwise) does not mean the PSU is OK. Also, does the PC still POST - do you hear the correct and necessary beeps?0
