Options
Hi my PC won't switch on..
I turned it off last night and have just tried to switch it back on as usual and nothing!

I can hear the fan going, and it all sounds as normal but won't switch on??

Does any wonderful person out there know what I can do?

Thanks in advance! x

"I can hear the fan going, and it all sounds as normal but won't switch on??"

So are you saying there is no signal on the monitor? Does the power light get lit on the PC and also the HDD light?
  • Sorry I don't know what a HDD light is? but no, there are no lights on. It used to have a blue light on the power switch, but now nothing?

I meant hard disk light. I am still unclear as to why you can hear the fan if there is no power to the PC? This could be a dislodged power connection; it does happen quite easily and is relatively simple to fix. Can you take the case off the PC?
  • well there are screws to the back of it, but there is a sticker over them that says 'WARRANTY SEAL' I have had it over 2 years.

I understand that and it is your choice but a loose power connection cable is often easy to fix.
  • I've been so stupid with this. I bought it, but was so excited to have my own PC I didn't register it or anything. Now lost all paperwork that came with it.
I have emailed ACER and they say they will get back to me, but you never know if some companies will.
I think I should wait because I'll probs take the back off and then they will say 'well if you hadnt done that we could have helped!'.
Do you think its a power connection, even though the fan is working as usual?

That's why I was hesitant but I can fully understand your reluctance; perhaps wait until you hear from Acer? How long was the warranty for?

I wouldn't go undoing the case just yet
Unplug every cable (one at a time) then plug back in again.
    Example:
Unplug the power cord from back of PC then plug back in again
Unscrew and unplug monitor cable from back of PC then plug and screw back in again
    etc

Also check connections on monitor and at actual power socket.

Is monitor getting power (is the light on?)
Do you get any flashing lights like you usually would when the computer is turning on, or do you just hear a fan and nothing else at all?

Ps Doubt Acer will do anything for free

I have unplugged everything and plugged it all back in again.
When I switch it on the disc part makes a whirring sound, then the fan comes on, and stays on. There are no lights.
The monitor light turns on and the screen says 'NO SIGNAL'.
I'm not sure about the warranty. I requested a new password for the ebuyer website where I bought it, that was about 2 hours ago but not received it yet. I thought that ebuyer might have a record of what I have bought (like amazon does).
    Thanks for replying you two!

I bought it 27/3/07 if that helps? x
