can i use substitute one sugar for another?

    I've aleady been down to the shop today for baking supplies, and didn't really fancy going down again!

    Got a food processer? Whizz it in there for ten seconds.

    Otherwise, it's just a case of creaming the mix longer. You can speed things up but having the ingredients and bowl etc at warmish room temperature.

    I agree. I only buy granulated sugar. If I need caster sugar I blend it or put it in a pestle and mortar.

  • I whizz granulated sugar in my blender - lot cheaper than buying caster sugar

    I always thought they were the same thing! I don't recall ever having a failed baking attempt and I always use normal table sugar.

    Morrison's granulated is like caster sugar, it's ground more finely than others for some reason :confused: I always use granulated.

    Sugar, caster sugar and icing sugar are all the same thing, just ground to different granulatednesses :D

    My first time baking ANYTHING from scratch (i usually use boxes of cake mix)
    So i am pretty darn proud of them!
  • The only things I think it's worth using caster sugar for are meringues.

    It really won't - caster sugar and granulated are the same price (the 2kg bags are at Tesco).
