Yes shaun. If the new tv has built in freeview (most do now) then they wont need the freeview box but if they get the Humax PVR with hard drive as the link I gave then they connect that up and can record two freeview stations at once whilst watching a third :) It is easy to use, I just click on the remote guide and then choose what I want to record. To view, you just click on menu and choose the recorded programme you want to see. Deleting them is easy too. Im sure there are lots more things it does but I havent got round to working them out yet. My son was here at the beginning of the week and when I got up to make a cup of tea, he paused the television - not the recorded programme, but the tv programme we were watching. When I came back with the tea, he just clicked on the forward arrow on the remote and it started the programme from where id left the room - lol, I was most impressed.

Oh, a couple of points though - ours arrived with just quick start up leaflet and the handbook on a cd. This isnt ideal, I printed the handbook off the cd but you end up with reams of paper falling all over the place. Contact Humax direct online or phone them and ask for the handbook, I have and they are sending me it free of charge.

The other thing is, tell mum and dad to keep their dvd player as the recorder wont play dvds. So you have to have that too.

You may think it worth getting the tv and humax from a local store though, like John Lewis or a local tv shop as then they can set it all up for your parents rather than the tv and recorder just arriving in boxes from an online seller?

This is a decent tv from John Lewis - if you can run to the extra £49 - but that does include 5 years guarantee which would cost you over £100 elsewhere and the John Lewis back up:

Samsung LE32B450C4W LCD HD Ready Digital Television, 32 Inch

Get this cable (or similar) for it from Amazon rather than scart and the picture will upgrade for them

LINX HDMI Cable - Premium Gold Plated HDMI Lead for Full HD/HD Ready TVs - 1.2 metres

    Was: £24.89 Price: £7.01
