10p Listing day on Thursday 15th June (Merged)

I suppose most of us have nothing else to do on Thursday early evening!

For the entire day of Thursday 15th June 2006 (local UK time), sellers listing with Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now or Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) formats in an eligible category, will pay a reduced 10 pence (£0.10) Insertion Fee per listing. Please refer to "What's Excluded?" for more details.

Cheers

  • I much prefer it when it's a Thursday as items tend to sell better then, I will be relisting some items & will try to put some newer ones on too. Only 9 weeks til my baby is due & still loads to get rid off & need the money too!

  • They're getting a bit stingy now. What happened to the 5p listing days? Since most of my auctions start at 99p (normally 15p to list) it's not going to save me a lot of money, but I suppose every little helps.

Luckily I have some slightly more expensive things that I want to list that would normally start at around the £8 mark, so this will save me some 25p per listing.

  • The May one was 5p - I posted my last sale from that today, a woman who took ages to get in touch and pay despite my emails, and then sent me a postal order.

I hadn't expected another one so soon, not sure if I will list. I do have stuff that could go on ebay, but I don't know if I have time to dig it out and write descriptions etc, my children don't seem to like me sitting at the pc too long!

Do you think there's likely to be another 5p (or free - that would be nice!!) day in the next few months?

  • They seem to do 5p listing days fairly frequently, so there will probably be another one along soon. They also sometimes do other special offers, e.g. the last one was free gallery and subtitles. It's been a long time since they had a free listing day, though.

Thanks, I think I'll wait and pull together some more stuff to list then.

Can we take it from "and then sent me a postal order" that you don't like them?

At risk of going a little off subject here, I have offered a reduction in some of my listings for people who send postal orders rather than cheques as it does not cost me anything to walk to the post office - time or money - as I am going there anyway to post the item to the buyer. A cheque on the other hand means a 2 mile trip to a bank.
PayPal means I will pay more for processing the payment and nobody seems to want to pay me in Nochex (cheaper for seller and cost buyer nothing) and its obviously easier for a lot of buyers to send a cheque (understandable).

Who owns Paypal???????? mmmmmmmm let me think!!! Easy to find the click on payment button for buyers on ebay - lets all use that....

They do cheap listing days or special offers on the type of listing you have e.g. cheaper gallery listing on a number of occasions every year but I haven't noticed a particular pattern to it other than you can always expect one early-ish in the year.

I was a bit thrown by it at first, as I don't think I've ever had to cash a postal order and wasn't sure what to do with it. I was a bit worried what ID they might ask for as I don't have any photo ID (passport expired, don't drive and I'm currently on maternity leave so don't have my work pass just now). Actually, it was really easy and you're right, better than a cheque - I bank with First Direct so a cheque means either going into the centre to an HSBC branch (£2.30 daysaver) or paying it in at the post office (free but takes longer to clear) and then checking the statement before posting.

I offered bank transfer as an option which I was really hoping people would go for as its so easy, but no-one did. I don't currently offer Paypal as I haven't upgraded, but I'm sorting out quite a few things to put on and will probably end up offering it. I know that it will cost me, and it annoys me that ebay favour paypal so much (although I understand it), but it does seem to get you more bidders.
