Broken Phone - Cheap Repair?

Hi,

I recently was play fighting and had my phone in my pocket, I must have put pressure on the LCD screen and this has now cracked, I have tried several ways to repair it, have called tesco (They quoted me £50), have tried buying one off ebay for 9.99 however when plugged in it worked and then went off, I bought a phone for spares/repairs off ebay, however the screen in this was also broken.. Is there any other ways you can think of that will get me a cheap repair as it's been a good phone to me.

I forgot to note that the screen is easy enough to replace yourself, it is just a pop-out and then just plug in a little cable - I watched a youtube video and have done this with the screen from china, however as mentioned above the screen from china was a cheap replica.
