I'm unclear how dragging songs onto an mp3 using a file browser not designed for such a task is easier than dragging them on with iTunes.
  • I've never paid & paid for itunes, I just use what I have already - once you find the secret of doing the uploading it's fine (don't ask me though, I've forgotten! :D )

I like the 'leave it to the kids" comment though, lol!
  • I only tend to buy the odd itune, but as you say its so complicated tryng to upload cds as well. Drag and drop!!! Tried it, cant do it!! I end up just shouting at my laptop.

Gonna try some of your suggestions this afternoon, so will let you know how i get on!

And yes it is lovely to look at isnt it!! Lol. Mine is red and shiny and I do love it!!

    It's all explained here:

Personally, I think iTunes is great. It effortlessly organises my music and videos, and it is very simple to use. Lots of people seem to have problems with syncing music, but I have always used my iPod on manual from day one; perhaps that explains why it has behaved so well all this time.

    Thanks for those links MartyJ.

I dhall be taking my first foray into iPods and iTunes on Christmas day, thanks to my daughter, so I'll read up before then.

The drag and drop feature was removed a few versions of itunes ago to enable more than one ipod to sync with one computer - i have 4 ipods and an iphone running off my imac.

You can also share and copy your songs over your network if you have more than one computer

No probs; if you have any problems, you know where to come. ;)

To add CDs, you insert a CD into your computer's drive, and iTunes should ask you if you want to import it. If it doesn't, select the CD in the source pane on the left, and then click the import button on the bottom right.

If you want to use drag and drop, plug your iPod in, and select it in the source pane on the left. Click the Summary tab and select "Manually manage music and videos", then click "Apply".

Now iTunes won't add anything automatically to your iPod. If you want to add a song or video, just drag it over to your iPod in the source pane.

I'm not too sure if this is a silly question, but here goes......

I've been using iTunes for a little while but only just got myself an iPod. I have it set up to manually manage my music, so I can pick and choose what I want to sync onto the iPod when I plug it in. Is there an easy way to sync complete albums? When I go into the menu to sync music, I can either click on particular playlists, or all tracks by a particular artist, but what if I don't want all tracks, I just want a particular album?? Is there an easy way to do this, or do I need to set up a playlist and drag and drop all the tracks from an album into this??

Also, is there a way of telling iTunes to play the album in the "right" order? I never seem to get the tracks in the same order as the CD?! Thank you!

You will have to create a new playlist with the tracks from the album. The addition of allowing easy transfer of songs from a specific artist is welcome from a fairly recent iTunes update, but they do need to go the extra step and allow easy selection of albums IMO.

In any playlist, right click on the headings (or Select "View Options..." from the view menu). Select "Track Number". Clicking on the "Track Number" heading will sort the songs by track order.

Just drag the album cover onto your iPod, and it will copy all the songs from that album.

If you're using the list view and you can't see the artwork, click the little arrow in the top left:

and the album artwork will appear:

If you rip your own music, it should be in the correct order. Otherwise, follow Scrilla's advice above.
