I couldn't get it to do anything in the end so I've done a system restore. Just updating everything now :(

Thanks for your help and advice everyone.

If and when everything gets sorted I'd seriously suggest installing a new suite of anti -virus and -malware software. Avast or Avg perhaps, and Microsoft Security Essentials (all free downloads); SpywareBlaster is also quite good; and ditch IE and switch to Firefox if you can.
  • Thanks guys. It'll probably have to wait until tomorrow now, 7 hours sitting at the PC was more than enough for one day!

Is Firefox that much better than IE then? I've got FF on the laptop but still tend to use IE just because I'm used to it.

Personal preference but I and many others here think Firefox is far better; more secure and safer browsing and excellent security add-ons such as NoScript. Give it a try, it can live side by side with IE;)
  • I've heard a lot of people talk about it and say they prefer it but I never really knew why. I'll give it a try then. Thanks.

befrore you update everything, get and scan with MBAM as indicated earlier...better to update a clean machine than one that's still suspect.....
