If it didnt work in tescos, logic dictates something happened before tescos. if you get that poor girl fired you are a horrible person. I hope I never have to deal with someone as closed minded as you.

I am not after the girls blood, I want Tesco to investigate the matter, because quite rightly I am concerned about Tesco's security.

Their machine kicked out the correct PIN number twice, that assistant took my card from me to swipe, handed it back to me and informed me that it should work and for me to insert my PIN which was again rejected.

If, as the girl said, there were known problems with that particular chip and PIN machine, since she admitted that other customers had been affected during the morning, surely a supervisor would have been informed of the recurring problems and that checkout should have been closed.

If they had closed that checkout, which it should have been, it would have saved me a lot of time and worry, plus the inconvenience of being without a debit card until the bank issue me wioth a replacement.

As far as I am concerned, Tesco was my last port of call. I had the problem there and my card was quickly used after the PIN problem.
  • You'd have to be a bit thick to use a skimmed card directly after skimming it, surely?

I mean, with my very limited knowledge mainly gleaned from Crimewatch and The Real Hustle ;), I thought your average card skimmer waited at least a few days before making a transaction so as to make it more difficult to trace whre the skimming took place

I've often had issues with chip and pin cards either not reading at all or locking out pin unmbers etc. Usually it is because of a bit of dirt on the chip or in the reader etc.

That's because you have convinced yourself that it is Tesco, and you won't listen to anything else.

This has been explained in a previous post, you didn't listen then so there's no point in repeating it.

Have you considered that she may have just said other people had problems to make you feel better? How would you have felt if she had said, "that's funny, it works perfectly for other people, must be your fault" ?

No it wouldn't, you card details were stolen some time previously. What happened was going to happen next time you used it. It would not have mattered if you had used a different checkout, or even a different shop. You card details had been stolen and what came next was bound to happen.

This is the problem, you are convinced it was Tesco and won't listen to anything else.

If the checkout person was stealing the card details, and they were being used immediately after, how long do you think she would last? She'd soon have a copper asking her how come lots of people are reporting card fraud and they all have one thing in common, they all came through her checkout just before the fraud was commited.

This is why people who steal card details don't use them until you have had a chance to use the card several times in other places. That way it is more difficult to pinpoint where the details were stolen.

this happened to me with my Capital One Visa in Boots today.

Im going to ring them tomorrow - not too concerned as there isnt much on it, and their anti-fraud is pretty good but worrying anyway.

Edit: Ahhh, just checked janceyb's other posts - you are a Tesco employee, which answers my question as to why you think Tesco employees are beyond suspicion!! lol

Yeah I openly admit I work for tescos and I have peoples pins not work ALL THE TIME. yesterday infact.. we tried twice on the chip and pin and twice on my till and it worked fine 4th time. and If someone came accusing me with such vigour I'd be totally !!!!ed and completely upset. I'd go home crying. Her persistance that it HAD to be the tesco cashier is vile. Next she'll be burning people at the stake.

The store was unhelpful to the police with their enquiries, they were prepared to let him continue working until court.

exactly happened to me on saturday morning about 4am at tesco...hubby used his cc and it said incorrect pin... 3 times.. so he used another cc.and said incorrect pin again... so i used mine and pin was incorrect again.. my cc is same as hubbys first cc.

    so paid in cash..
on sunday afternoon went to asda and entered correct pin but authorisation was required.. so used another cc and it was ok..

on tuesday recieved a letter from cc company asking us to contact them due to some activities on the account...
the only new place i had used the card was online at ebuyer and that was only for £3.60..all the rest were my usual supermarkets and petrol station!! so dunno wots happening!!

like i said b4, if my cc was used fraudulently, im sure they would spend more than £3.68...if this was the concern...

Ive stopped my card and Cap One are reissuing the card and PIN with new details. I know it might sound like Im being over-cautious but I've had 2 debit cards cloned so I would rather be safe than sorry I think.

A tad over dramatic and very unfair to the OP ......

Thanks to the OP and others posting about their experiences, I think I will go into the bank and withdraw cash instead of using my card now , its all very scary.....
