  • Ooooh a letter from MSE Santa! A delightful little tip, and a new word, "forumite"... I have never encountered this word before, and yet it makes perfect sense... not the only suffix available to describe a group of people, but this one sounds good. Given the level at which the internet now pervades daily life, it's amazing it's never been uttered in my presence before? And I consider myself an early adopter and a member of the first generation of kids who grew up with the internet*.

*Interesting side note: I'm a Xennial or Oregon Trailer...that cross-over generation born at the dawn of the Thatcher years, not yet in my teens when Berners-Lee developed the WWW. Hands up if you where a kid in the 80s! I ❤️ my Atari 800XL, the 8-bit computer with built-in BASIC interpreter and from which I learnt to program—along with spending my Saturdays engrossed in the 000-001 section of the library where my aunt worked, filling my hungry mind with the basic computing concepts that would not be taught in schools for the next 20 years-ishand knew what my career choice would be before I even entered secondary school!)

    From https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-ite

Suffix -ite: (sometimes derogatory) Used to form nounds denoting followers or adherents of a specified person, idea, doctrine, movement, etc.
    1. Adamsite, Campbellite, Jacobite, Laborite, Mansonite, Reaganite, Thatcherite
I can add a few more, let's see... plebiscite, gob s..ite! (My dad's personal favourite, that one), erudite, luddite,.. the list goes on. I guess "forumite" is a much better, and generic name, rather than calling us followers of Martin Lewis "Lewisites"!

Why did you revive an old out of date thread from 2009 instead of last years one with working links?
