In my experience unfortunately you don't often get a choice of removal firms - they are chosen for you. We had one team who on one move took every opportunity to sit and have a cuppa, and even went to sleep under the packing blankets on the van at one point when my hubby went out. They took offence at us suggesting they pack our rabbit run in first as it was just a large frame, and once it was stood on end other things could be packed inside it. They decided to pack it last, and there was no room on the van for it. It was dark by this point, and they had to unload lots of our belongings into the road to repack the van.

But in contrast, the next time we moved, same firm, different team, were great, very professional, couldn't fault them. (Mind you we did complain at the time and when we got the same company again asked specifically for a different team!)

I have a friend that has recently moved overseas, and the packers left a kitchen cupboard full of stuff - not found till the march out!

Just the luck of the draw I'm afraid! Problem is too if you pack boxes yourself and things get damaged they are not covered by the removal company's insurance either ....Just have to make sure you are fully covered by your own insurance and hope for the best I suppose!
  • Thanks

Got to admit every other move out has been great. This time I had no choice due to family commitments.

But trust me I will not make the same mistake twice, my problem is I am true trusting.

I have learnt from my mistake and I will be staying with Pearsons as they have been great in the past.

    thanks for your advice

White and Co moved us from London to Germnay; after they had done the measuring up or whatever they do they arrived with the wrong sized sofa cover. When my cream sofa arrived in germnay it was smeared with dirt where they ahd pushed it through the doorways and along te apth. They also amanged to loose one leg off my ebd which meant us sleeping on a matress on the floor for weeks while they "looked" for it! In our house, they are affectionately knwon as "Sh*te and Co"!!!!
  • Could not agree more with you.

  • Completely agree, White and Co moved us from Tidworth to Germany and were horrendous. Having had a new 3 and 2 seater leather sofa suite delivered from a furniture store a month or so prior to moving, we knew that the only way to get them back out of the house was the way they came in it - through the back door. Would Whites listen? No. They insisted on trying to force our UNWRAPPED leather sofas through 3 doors to get out the front, having left them til last when I had already discussed the issues we had getting them in and raised my concerns.
Result being that our sofas were rubbed down to the wooden frame in places from being wedged and forced through doorways that there was no way they'd fit. White's solution? As it was approaching 5pm the men wanted to knock off so we had to sign to say they had completed the job even though they hadn't taken the sofas. When we refused to sign they simply started unloading our stuff from the van!
I rang the company's head office about this and the fact that they found it amusing to throw boxes of our stuff from the top to bottom of the stairs and was told to wind my neck in! They sent a small van the next day who inspected the damage caused to the suite, carefully wrapped it and took it out THROUGH THE BACK DOOR and loaded it on to the van with the rest of our stuff.
When we moved in to our new place in Germany we had a totally different crew who were lovely, honestly couldn't fault them, but they told us they had been warned about us being 'awkward b******s'. I rang head office to complain about our sofa and the attitude of the initial crew and was fobbed off. Never did get anything sorted ref the damage to our furniture, but have refused them ever since!
